Overview

Teach For Thailand is an independent and locally founded charitable organization which has been operating for the last 9 years. We are part of Teach For All, an international network of independent organizations operating in 60 countries under a shared vision that all children would have an opportunity to access an excellent education.

Over the past 9 years, Teach For Thailand has reached more than 64,000 students through 440 fellows, empowered 99 schools and communities across 16 provinces in Thailand. In 2022 alone, more than 250 alumni are working across sectors to collectively impact more than 100,000 students in Thailand.

Problem

Teach For Thailand strives to eradicate education inequality by providing good education. Teachers definitely play important role and influence how students look at the education. The main objectives of the “Teach For Thailand Fund” is to support the selection, training and coaching of more than 100 young change-makers who will be teaching Science, Math and English to more than 10,000 students across the country.
Mission

Teach For Thailand’s mission is to develop collective leadership to expand educational opportunities for children in Thailand. We do this through the “Fellowship Program” where we recruit high potential candidates from all backgrounds to teach in economically challenged schools for two years. Through two years of teaching and working with key education stakeholders, our Fellows are exposed to the grassroot realities of education system and cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to attain positions of leadership in and beyond education, working collectively to build a vibrant movement for educational equity across Thailand.

Our selection and training methods are high in standard to ensure that every student will receive only high-quality lessons from our fellows. Out of 1,505 people who registered, only 65 participants had made it to the end of the selection process and joined our 8 week intensive training program. All of them will be evaluated again and some who do not meet the qualification will not be placed in schools. However, the learning process of fellows will not simply end with the training program. The Training and Support team will organize more activities, such as regular coaching and training sessions, together with Teach For Thailand’s network throughout their 2-year journey to help every fellow continuously improve themselves, deepen their understanding of the root causes of educational issues, and encourage them to create long-lasting impacts on schools and communities. In the end, Teach For Thailand believes that this valuable experience will not only inspire but also benefit fellows upon their entry to instigate changes to Thai education in other sectors of society.

Your Impact

Our hope is to reach a total of 16,800 students by the end of this year but with the current funding gap of 5 million THB, we will be short of our target by 2,500 students and our hope can only be a dream.

Update June 2024

Teacher for Thailand kickstarted their 11th year and called for application of volunteer teachers who will be helping to improve the quality of education in Thailand. Teach for Thailand also organize a workshop to encourage everyone to sharpen their storytelling skills. These skills will help with their presentation and job interview.

Update October 2022

Currently, 108 fellows from Teach For Thailand are working in 50 schools across 16 provinces. More than 13,000 students benefited from our fellows’ work in 2022 and every semester, the average score of our students increases by 20–50%. We are also seeing 250 alumni assume many positions to catalyze and influence change.
One highlight of this would be, four alumni are working with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) team to drive change in education, in particular Khun Giraffe (Cohort 1 Alumnus) whose Saturday School program was the inspiration to the flagship After School Program, under the new Governor of Bangkok, which he is now co-leading with the education office at BMA.

Update July 2022

We kicked start 2022 with 9th generation Teach for Thailand teacher recruitment with a total of 1500 applicants. The number of applicants for our program indicates that our organization is becoming well-known, especially among those who are interested in participating in social projects. Due to our limited budget, however, we were able to only hire 60 teachers for our program.

At the moment, we are currently training our 9th gen teachers before taking part in leading real-life classrooms.

Update September 2021

Teach For Thailand has operated for 7 seasons. So far, we have collaborated with more than 39 schools in 13 provinces around Thailand. Every semester there will be around 8,500 students in our. By the end of this October, season 8 will start. There will be 104 teachers covering 14 provinces inThailand. However, the actual classes will take place around November.

For the past season, due to the pandemic, the teaching style was adapted and adjusted to be coordinated with the government’s protocol. We came up with the “Learning Box” activity with aims to let the students have independence when it comes to studying. To clarify, the students were able to choose whenever and wherever they wanted to learn. These learning box’s equipment were also designed in the paper based form so that the students did not have to spend much time on communication tools such as the internet and social media. Doing so also helps reduce educational inequality.

Apart from improving the learners ,Teach For Thailand also improved the quality of the instructor’s as well. We teamed up with the ministry of education to establish the Coding Program. This program focuses on granting the teachers their teaching permits.

Moreover, we also launched the new program called “โครงการครูผู้นำฯ ของชุมชน โดยชุมชน เพื่อชุมชน”. This program allows the local people to have more opportunity to be a part in developing and making the differences in their community. In addition to this, we also support the Fellow teachers who participate in this 8th season by setting up the 8-week training sessions for them so that they will have better comprehension and skills which are significant for their teaching.
