Overview

The Big Trees Foundation, the Thai Arborist Association, the Restart Academy, Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, and Socialgiver have come together to launch a program offering arborist training to inmates and former offenders. This initiative aims to create sustainable career opportunities, paving the way for a productive and positive future for these individuals.

Problem

Many inmates and ex-offenders face unemployment due to societal rejection, leading to reoffending. To combat this, our partners are providing arborist training to equip them with skills for sustainable careers and smoother reintegration into society.

Mission

From September 9-13, 2024, a comprehensive arborist training program will be held at Nonthaburi Provincial Prison and the Department of Corrections. This intensive course, both theoretical and practical, will train around 100 participants in arboriculture. Professional arborists and the Restart Academy will offer ongoing mentorship to ensure the trainees can apply their new skills to earn a livelihood.

September 9-13, 2024: Arborist Training for Inmates From September 9-13, 2024, a hands-on arborist training workshop will be held at Nonthaburi Provincial Prison and the Department of Corrections. This 5-day workshop will teach inmates essential tree care and basic gardening skills.

The training helps build confidence and provides career opportunities for inmates and ex-offenders, allowing them to earn an income and contribute to a safer society in the long term.

By offering this training, we are creating a skilled workforce and supporting inmates’ reintegration into society. Everyone makes mistakes, and forgiveness opens doors to new opportunities.

This program is a chance for them to start again with hope.

August 25, 2024: Launch of “Training Inmates to Become Tree Care Experts” Join us for the official launch of the project “Arborist Restart: New Day, New Tree.” This initiative aims to train inmates and ex-offenders to become tree care professionals. The project is led by BIG Trees, the Thai Arboriculture Association, and the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), in partnership with the Thai Public Policy Foundation, Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, and Socialgiver.
